Kids: learn about “sneaky people” online, how they try to trick us, & why we don't play with or share information with strangers. We'll learn about what to do when someone sneaky tries to talk to us.
We will talk about “sneaky people”, how to spot them, how and why they try to trick us, and why not playing with strangers is good idea. We will discuss keeping our personal information private. We also teach an action plan of how to talk to our parents and/or a trusted adult if/when someone "sneaky" tries to talk to us. We can also talk about not sending pictures of anything or anyone online in an age appropriate way. Parents are welcome to listen and ask questions at the end.
Presenter: Kim Smith - Internet Safety Specialist with Shared Hope International. Shared Hope International is a global non-profit fighting domestic minor sex trafficking. The founder’s office is in Washington state and the Justice Advocacy Center is located in Washington DC. Shared Hope brings awareness through prevention education, restoration through many partners domestic and international, and brings justice through our work with state and federal lawmakers to create and change laws to protect and provide for children and youth who are victims of trafficking. Kim has been doing this work since 2018 and has presented to over 10,000 students in the past 3 years. She is passionate about keeping kids safe while equipping and empowering them to be smart with their online lives and look out for their friends, peers and families. She travels to schools and other organizations throughout the Midwest providing prevention and awareness. Kim and her husband Ronnie, live in central Iowa and have 3 grown sons.
