Novel Conversations is a book group that alternates between classic novels and more recent works of fiction and nonfiction.
Participants are welcome to come to all the meetings or just those that sound interesting. Multiple copies of each book are available for checkout in the library and are, whenever possible, made available in large print, audiobook, and ebook editions.
Novel Conversations meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Board Room and on Zoom. Email Mike Jorgensen for the Zoom link.
In June Novel Conversations is discussing "The Quiet American" by Graham Greene.
“I never knew a man who had better motives for all the trouble he caused,” the narrator says of Alden Pyle, a brash American idealist who is sent by Washington to Vietnam in the days of the Indo-China War. Fowler, the narrator, is a cynical British reporter whose mistress, Phuong, Pyle becomes entangled. Greene’s The Quiet American raises many questions about morality, religion, colonialism, and the human cost of war.
