Novel Conversations is a book group that alternates between classic novels and more recent works of fiction and nonfiction.
Participants are welcome to come to all the meetings or just those that sound interesting. Multiple copies of each book are available for checkout in the library and are, whenever possible, made available in large print, audiobook, and ebook editions.
Novel Conversations meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Board Room and on Zoom. Email Mike Jorgensen for the Zoom link.
In August join Novel Conversations for a discussion of "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin.
Written in 1899, The Awakening shocked readers with its realistic portrayal of marital infidelity, as Victorian audiences were used to more proper fiction. It is one of the earliest works to focus on women’s issues in narrative form, becoming a landmark in early feminism. Edmund Wilson called the book “quite uninhibited and beautifully written.”
