Foraging: An Edible Walk
for Teens 6th-12th grade
Wednesday, June 10
1:00pm - 4:00pm
Coralville Public Library
Meeting Room A&BRegistration and a signed permission slip are required.
Food is everywhere! Are you interested in learning how to identify some of the edible plants that surround us? This fun and engaging walk will start at the Coralville Public Library and be led by Hai Huynh, Associate Director of the Coralville Community Food Pantry, an amateur forager and enthusiastic foodie. We will be walking to the Coralville Woodpecker Trail on the south side of Highway 6 (across from Applebees). Back at the library, following the walk, we will enjoy a freshly prepared snack featuring many of the foods found along the way.
In addition to registration, the linked permission slip needs to be signed by you and your parent or guardian, and submitted before the event.
Things you need to know:
- We will be meeting at the Coralville Public Library, downstairs in Meeting Room A, before we walk to the Coralville Woodpecker Trail. Please be here by 2:00! We will be leaving right away.
- We will be outside the majority of the time. Wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Wear long pants and a long sleeved shirt. Walking or outdoor type shoes are best. NO sandals or open-toed shoes.
- Hats are suggested, because of ticks, as we will be in the woods.
- Please be sure to wear sunscreen and bug spray.
- Bring water to drink if it is hot, and expect to carry it with you.
- Bring gloves if you have them and a bag or basket to collect edibles.
If we need to cancel due to severe weather, we will post that on our website and the Coralville Public Library Teen Instagram and Facebook page by noon that day. There is no rain date scheduled.
