Archery at Kent Park

for Teens 9th-12th grade

The archery program is designed for beginners. Registration and a signed permission slip are required. Transportation not provided. Meet at the Kent Park Youth Group Lodge.

The linked permission slip needs to be signed by you and your parent or guardian, and submitted by Monday, July 28.   

This is a Coralville Public Library sponsored event.  Kent Park naturalists will be hosting the program. We will have two library staff accompanying the group.  

Parents are responsible for transportation to and from Kent Park. 

Description: Learn the basics of technique and bow anatomy before we start shooting. A short archery range will be set up with targets, and a myriad of bows available with different draw weights.  After the intro and stance practice, we'll spend the rest of the time target shooting. 

Things you need to know:

Students should wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes. 
Should have sunscreen and bring a hat, sunglasses, or other sun protection if desired. 
Students may want to bring water to drink if it is extremely hot. 
Some rules from the Park Staff:

Must stay with group at all times. No exceptions!
Must have cell phones (and any similar electronic devices) TURNED OFF.
Respect for others at all times during the program. Don't pick flowers, don't throw things, etc.
Location:  Meet at the Kent Park Youth Group Lodge.(on the east side of Kent Park, almost directly across from the campground entrance)  This will be the drop off and pick up site.

Directions to Kent Park:

Take Hwy 6 W out of Coralville.  Go through Tiffin and keep following Hwy 6 W approximately   3 more miles.  Kent Park will be located on the right hand side of the road and is well marked.    (8.5 miles from Coralville Public Library)

To get to the Youth Group Lodge, where teens are to be dropped off and picked up.  .1 mile after entering the park, take a right turn at the signpost marker towards the boat ramp.  Stay on this road, as it curves around and heads back north.  Go past the turnoff on your left to Red Haw Shelter.  The next turnoff on your right is to the Youth Group Camp and Lodge.   Turn right and go to the Youth Group Lodge.   

If Archery is cancelled due to severe weather, we will post that on our website and the Coralville Public Library Teen Instagram and Face book page before noon.  Archery will be held if there is a light rain.
